Dog years to human years — how does it work?
The popular belief that 1 dog year equals 7 human years is a rough simplification. In reality, dogs age much faster in their early years and more slowly as they mature. A 1-year-old dog is roughly equivalent to a 15-year-old human. By age 2, dogs are approximately 24 in human years.
Breed size also makes a significant difference. Small dogs tend to live longer and age more slowly than large or giant breeds. A 10-year-old Chihuahua is roughly 56 in human years, while a 10-year-old Great Dane is closer to 78.
